stone + pebble earrings with fringe
stone + pebble earrings are a mix of two collections. in my sand + stone collection, I explored contour drawing of stones in metal, and textured them to look as if they were covered in sand. my pebble collection is inspired by smaller rocks which had been well tumbled in the tide. they are round and smoother.
these different approaches of exploring stones I gathered at the beach has taken my studio practice in a new direction. I started using my saw to cut shapes from metal again, explored using bronze and semiprecious stones to add color, used new to me hammers and an antique iron for texturing metal and chose chain more purposely, giving it a part in the story. this exploration brought me to the liminal space of creating work in a production-like manner, as I hammered, cut, filed, sanded and soldered in an assembly style, but the pieces evolved. they aren’t identical and are moving towards the one of a kind collections I have been dreaming of.
stone + pebble post earrings have a sterling silver stone at the top with waves of fringe hanging from it. there are strands of beaded chain which look like rocks skipping though the water, mixed with cable chain which looks like ripples after a rock has been tossed into the sea. this fringe with the weight of the pebble moves gracefully on your ear. as someone who loves the beach best on the off season, the satin silver and warm bronze give the look sun glittering over cool water.
