shell collection necklace
shell collection necklace
as someone who still comes home with a pocket full of shells, I wanted to make a necklace which reminded me of my shell collection. with my shells nearby, I combed through my bead collection looking for stones which reminded me of the shells. crazy lace agate in a matte finish turned out to be the perfect choice. with swirls of oranges, yellows, blues and white, they look like what i’ve collected walking along the shores of New England, inclusions and all.
this necklace can be subtle or a statement, depending on how you wear it. at fifty inches long, it can be worn layered (up to three times), or as one, long necklace. beads move along silver chain in small segments connected with soldered jump rings. this motion mimics shells being pushed to the shore and pulled back to sea with the tide. I chose to use two different chains, one a delicate rope chain and the other a beaded chain. these two textures will remind you of days at the beach, watching the sun reflect off ripples in tide pools and waves cresting in the horizon as you look out to enjoy the sunset.
thanks for looking at this one of a kind necklace. xo, kim
