seeds complete the cycle of life. pushed in the earth, watered by rain, warmed by the sun, and given the breathe of carbon dioxide, they root and grow. after a flower or fruit has been produced, it dries and goes to seed. seasons pass. the cycle starts again.

to me, seeds represent energy, they are the spirit of life. growth starts and ends with seeds. they carry the essence of what they grow into from winter to summer, through spring and autumn. always changing forms, and growing within the elements.

these fringe earrings symbolize the seeds of the grave flower. fallen from the dried calyx after its petals have faded. saving energy through the cold of winter, to grow roots and leaves in spring, buds and flowers in summer and autumn and on it goes.

these shoulder brushing earrings are 4.25” long from the top of the ear wire. made of sterling silver chain which has little beads on it, it feels like rolling seeds through your fingers as one does while planting a spring garden. the black beads are spinels measuring about 2.5 mm each. they are fixed to beaded chain by balling up the end of wire threaded through the bead and chain. there are two chains per earring, the shorter being 1.5” long. they really look like seeds falling and dancing towards the earth. while this design looks simple, it is a balance of fire and a steady hand.

spinels symbolize strength, protection and rejuvenation. black spinels in particular are associated with resilience and hope. they are said to help one feel grounded as well. considering this represents a seed in this collection, I couldn’t have been drawn to a better stone, and there were many in my stash to choose from. everything does come full circle when you allow space for experimenting in your practice.
