as the days grow longer so do the grasses. swaying in the breeze, glowing in the sun, glittering in the morning dew.

in autumn, orchard grasses are golden as they dry for the colder days ahead. in spring, they are green with hints of blue and purple. though, you won’t see blues and purples unless you pause, stoop down and take them in. please, take the time for this, it is magical.

as someone who walks despite the season or weather, seeing orchard grasses emerge has brought some movement and color to my mornings. watching them blow in the breeze while my pup sniffs around beside me has been part of how I welcome spring.

these are artist proofs printed in spring 2023. each print is titled and signed in pencil. they measure about 7” x 10” with decked edges. an artist proof are prints that didn’t make the edition due to the paper being too included, the ink not being as thick or maybe something was a little smudged. these prints are where I tested pressure with my press and getting the ink even.

this blue-green paper is machine made in Thailand. the pulp is harvested from sustainably-grown mulberry trees and Kozo plants and has mango leaf inclusions. it is 35 gsm, which is on the thinner side. the inclusions created by the mango leaves remind me of a field, dense with grasses, with the deep green orchard grasses in the foreground. the thin, blue-green paper makes it look as if the grasses are gently bending, yielding with the breeze.
